Import

There are three ways to bring existing content into Manusly: a portable project file, a Word document, or pasted manuscript text.

What you will learn

  • Opening a .manusly project file
  • DOCX import
  • Pasting a manuscript and splitting into chapters

.manusly file

Location: Home page → Open .manusly or Settings → Project file

Portable zip package contains:

manifest.json → version and meta
data.json → project, chapters, characters, world, timeline
assets/ → project images

The legacy .manusly extension is also supported.

Word (DOCX) import

Location: Settings → Import DOCX

  1. Select a DOCX file.
  2. Word headings (Heading 1) become new chapters.
  3. Images are copied to the project assets folder.

Paste manuscript

Paste full text and split into chapters automatically. Split modes:

  • Auto: Detects heading patterns
  • Markers: --- or custom separators
  • Paragraphs: Every N paragraphs becomes a chapter

You can specify visual page intervals (e.g. one visual page every 2 chapters).
