There are three ways to bring existing content into Manusly: a portable project file, a Word document, or pasted manuscript text.
What you will learn
- Opening a .manusly project file
- DOCX import
- Pasting a manuscript and splitting into chapters
.manusly file
Location: Home page → Open .manusly or Settings → Project file
Portable zip package contains:
manifest.json → version and meta data.json → project, chapters, characters, world, timeline assets/ → project images
The legacy .manusly extension is also supported.
Word (DOCX) import
Location: Settings → Import DOCX
- Select a DOCX file.
- Word headings (Heading 1) become new chapters.
- Images are copied to the project assets folder.
Paste manuscript
Paste full text and split into chapters automatically. Split modes:
- Auto: Detects heading patterns
- Markers:
---or custom separators - Paragraphs: Every N paragraphs becomes a chapter
You can specify visual page intervals (e.g. one visual page every 2 chapters).
