Your book is structured with the chapter tree in the left panel. Each node is a page type; order changes via drag and drop and flows into the table of contents.
What you will learn
- Four page types (chapter, scene, part, visual-page)
- Tree structure and ordering
- Chapter notes
- Import shortcuts
Page types
| Type | Internal name | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter | chapter | Main chapter text; top-level TOC entry |
| Scene | scene | Sub-chapter; nested under a chapter |
| Part | part | Book parts (Part One, etc.); TOC grouping |
| Visual page | visual-page | Full-page illustration; no or minimal text |
Adding a new page
Location: Editor → left Chapter sidebar → + button
- Choose a type from the + menu (Chapter, Scene, Part, Visual Page).
- Click or double-click the page name to edit the title.
- When adding a scene, keep the parent chapter selected — the scene attaches under it.
Reordering
Drag pages to reorder. Order is preserved in the editor, TOC, and export.
Chapter notes
Use the note icon next to each page to add author-only notes. Notes are not included in export — they are for drafting only.
Clear all pages
From the sidebar menu, Clear all pages deletes all chapter content (confirmation required). Export a .manusly backup first if you need one.
Manuscript import
Paste full text via the sidebar or Settings to split into chapters automatically. Details: Import.
