Children’s book formatting for KDP fails when tools assume flowing novel text. Illustrated books need full-page images, bleed, and truthful print preview.

What makes kids’ books different
- Full-bleed spreads and edge-to-edge art
- Less flowing body text, more page-as-canvas
- Print color expectations vs Kindle reflow limits
- Strict trim + bleed math for paperbacks
Print checklist
- Create art at trim + bleed (typically 0.125" each side)
- Keep critical text inside the safe area
- Export print PDF with correct page size
- Proof a physical copy when budget allows
Kindle / ebook checklist
Fixed-layout expectations differ from reflowable novels. Preview on device frames. Some illustrated titles sell primarily as print — plan formats deliberately.
